What are Florida Springs?
Springs are points where groundwater discharge occurs at natural openings called vents. Where groundwater is under artesian pressure, it can forcefully flow out onto Earth's surface creating a spring.

The springs were the first tourist attraction in Florida. In the 1860s, Samuel O. Howse bought the 242 acres surrounding the headwaters of the Silver River. Several years after the American Civil War, the springs began to attract tourists from the North via steamboats up the Silver River.

Our thoughts:

The main thing we love about this spring is how organized and maintained everything is. From the free parking to the front stand you can know whats going on right away. There are two board walks to walk around the springs (be sure and look for monkeys     ) including a place to play for the kids, views of the springs as you wait for you boat tour!

Three Sisters Springs Historical Site was homesteaded by John McFadden in 1875. McFadden claimed that the three springs on his property about twelve miles north of Hot Springs, Arkansas possessed healing properties. The springs name, Three Sisters, was said to have come from the fact McFadden had three daughters.

Our thoughts:

We found this park to be extremely beautiful, and it's right in the middle of town! You need to park across the street from the park and take the shuttle in to ride. The shuttle is free but the park tickets (see prices above) do cost. You will be able to walk the 1.3-mile boardwalk around the three sisters springs and most days they have volunteers sharing all the information about these Springs. Many times you can see Manatee right in the Springs!

We LOVED checking this place out. You can find fun little suvaneers but the best part is all the Mantaee facts and info! Our girl's favorite part is they will give you a paper to fill out and become Jr. Rangers! Also, you can push buttons to hear a manatee fart so...

that's worth the visit itself :) Have a blast!

Our thoughts:

Sometimes it's fun to go off the trail and check out Unquie Springs. While this is so fun to see something different and get away from the crowds - please stay safe! Most of these Springs are maintained as much as the large springs above, but naturally beautiful!
