It was late so we did get a chance to get close but not go in. You can check more out about this magnificent place HERE and even get tickets for tours here.
Next stop was (we stopped back by the next day it was so beautiful):
Salzburg Cathedral (Salzburger Dom) was completed in 1657 and is famous for the location of Mozart's baptism! Something that was so cool is the three massive bronze doors with their symbols of Faith, Love, and Hope; the high altar with its Resurrection painted in 1628; and the superb frescoes in the vaulting. Cathedral Museum collections of liturgical objects and objets d'art from the Salzburg archdiocese. These include the 8th-century Carolingian Cross of St. Rupert, Gothic statues and paintings, and items from the Cathedral Treasury.
The next day we had to head right back to Altstadt Salzburg (Old Town) . We had heard you could rent bikes and venture around so we had to try this!
We rented bikes from a little place and took off to doing our own version of the Sound of Music Tour :) We like to bike on side roads and take our own time but you can take actual tours as well! Check these out here.
On our bike tour was filled with beauty. We highlight suggest if you like to adventure to not take the tour but go off on your own and find your own way... we even found a quaint town and stopped for some ciders. Amazing!
After our bike tour we also found they were selling rubber ducks.. Why? we didn't know... We bought a duck, wrote our names and the date, and sent it down the river. Don't do this. - they are actually meant to just be a souvenir. so...
I heard Austria was known for their potatoes. The first thing I saw getting off the train to this country was a restaurant and it was called "Potatoes." We had some good food but mostly what stood out was some amazing ice cream down town Altstadt Salzburg (Old Town) :)
